The reason behind this is all about the backlight technology. Plasma screens use the backlight which makes it to shine always. It does not matter the compactness in the arrangement of the cells. This results in image clarity and better contrast. However, LCD screens are trying to catch up and therefore new versions are being upgraded.

A screen larger than 50 inches costs much cheaper for Plasma than LCD screens.
